Lockdown at Bishop Reding CSS January 10, 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you are aware, our school went into ‘lockdown’ mode this afternoon as the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) conducted an investigation. All students and staff were safely secured in classrooms throughout the school as police searched our school building. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 2:00 p.m. and at the request of Police we dismissed students early so that they could continue their investigation.

As a school we undertake regular lockdown drills to ensure that everyone is prepared should an emergency ever arise. Today, students and staff had to put their practice into action, and they did a tremendous job. We are proud of the manner in which our students and staff responded to this situation today. We are grateful that everyone is safe, and we thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked with HRPS as they were handling their investigation.

I have attached the press release issued by HRPS. As this is an ongoing police matter, we are not able to provide any additional information.

Although their investigation is still active, Police have assured us that our school is safe and secure, allowing us to resume classes and continue with our usual school activities tomorrow.

It has been a challenging day for our students and staff. Often there is a wide range of responses to traumatic events such as today’s, and your son or daughter may come home with questions and worries. We have arranged for members of our Compassionate Care and Crisis Response Team to be available at the school to support students and staff. If you feel your son or daughter may need additional support, please feel free to contact us.

We want to reassure you that the safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority. We will continue working with HRPS to help keep our school safe and protect our students and staff.

Should you have any questions or information regarding this police investigation, please contact Halton Regional Police Services at 905-825-4747, ext. 2416.

Sincerely,
